Simple Gifts : Embracing Simplicity

It was just 2 days ago when I received a call from a friend that his buddy, also a friend of mine, has gotten into some legal trouble & need me for representation. After some discussion into the matter, I was appalled that he was in police custody for shoplifting. More shocking is that I have known this friend as somebody who is kind, helpful and approachable. I was to find out later that life has taken a toll on him lately & he lapsed into depression and job stress had put his life in a turmoil

This comes to my mind at that moment that many of us may be struggling to take stocks of our own lives. So, I came to a conclusion that we should let gratitude begin it's transformative work. With that the next step on the path will naturally unfold. When we appreciate how much we have, we feel the urge to pare down, get back to basics & learn what is essential for our happiness.

Many people believe simplicity implies doing without. On the contrary, True Simplicity as a conscious life choice illuminates our lives from within. True simplicity is both buoyant & bountiful, able to liberate depressed spirits from the bondage & burden of extravagance & excess. True simplicity can elevate ordinary moments & dreary lives. Learn to break out, from the mundane to the transcendent Trust that through the balm of simplicity your frazzled & weary soul can discover the place where you ought to be. Everyday offers us simple gifts when we are willing to search our hearts for the place that's right for each of us.

Specially to some of my friends who are going through some rough phases of changes, be it divorces, separations, change of job, retrenched or mourning : "Seek Spiritual & Functional Balances In Your Lives."

Book Of the Month : Twilight

Actually came out the words of wisdom after reading this book. Not much of being inspired by it, but more of the innocence pertaining to the pursuance of happiness in this book. Completed the book in 2 hrs 40mins. Arresting and entertaining. Make you want to find out more as you flip each page. Recommended for light reading

How Happy Are You Right Now & What You Truly Need?

The week flew past before my eyes. I was busy alright. But did managed to find the time to get my hair done with a gal friend. She relates the story about her mysterious sweetheart who simply refused to meet her despite months of chatting up on the phone. Strange it may sound but the stranger it becomes when she remains adament on the "relationship" they had established. She has this inert feel that she needs him there for her & vice versa.

Somehow, if we are to live happy, creative & fulfilled lives, it is crucial to distinguish between our wants & our needs. Unfortunately, many blur the distinction and then wondered why they feel so diminished. Make peace with the knowledge that you can't have everything you want. Why? Because it's more important for us to get everything we need. Like infants, we feel contentment when our essential needs are met.

Be courageous. Ask yourself: what is it I truly need to make me happy? The deeply personal answers to this vital question will be different for each of us. Trust the loving wisdom of your heart. It is only after we acknowledge our inner needs that we can harness the creative energy necessary to manifest them in our lives. It is inevitable when one has a great need of something, one finds it.

Wanting to leave some thoughts for a young friend who is now in Switzerland pursuing his studies. Work hard and enjoy the pure freedom for now. You deserve it. Stay on the right path and do keep your mind & focus clear. We all miss you back here in Singapore. Cheers!

DarkAngel is Back...

January, the month of new beginnings and cherished memories, beckons. Come let winter weave her wondrous spell, a reminder of the lonely Christmas I once had. Cold, crisp and long dark evenings. That's pure solitatary joy. Outside temperature drops as the snow falls softly. Though I missed my family then but I can't deny the fact that all of nature is at peace. We all should.

Now, I am older and wiser once more. Life is really unprecedented. Not really my happiest moment, but... Anyway, this is the month. The month to dream, to look forward to the year and the journey within.

It's the start of the year. Pardon me if I am a wee bit late. But it's a fresh start. A new chapter waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self discovery.

Today, carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change. Don't procrastinate! If you aren't going with what you have planned, then change it. It's my dad's wish I complete my PHD before 30. I have a real hard time on this one. Finally I reach my decision. I am going to give myself sometime. I have too many important decisions and plans unfulfilled. I am going to let this pass for the time being. Too much a responsibility and stress. Ironically, it's a special day for me too. Hopefully, I can learn to love and at the same time be loved the way I want it, again.

This year, instead of resolutions, write down your most private aspirations. Those longings you have kept tucked away until the time seems right. Trust that now is the time. Ask the questions and bring confidence that the answers will come and we will discover - day by day -how to live them.

Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing. Believe in yourself. And believe that there is a loving source - a Sower of Dreams - just waiting to be asked to help you make your dreams come true.
